10-ways-kids-are-like-cats

Last week I published a post listing 12 Way Kids Are Like Dogs, while drafting it I was also struck by how much they share in common with cats. So here is another fun list for you:

  1. They like to climb; curtains, bookshelves, furniture, anything really! Unlike cats though, kids don’t always land on their feet.
  2. They have a tendency to scratch and bite and call it playing.
  3. Both have an air of superiority over us poor adults.
  4. They can sleep anywhere (unless you want them too).
  5. They sometimes display nocturnal tendencies and night time howling.
  6. They are under the impression that they rule the house and we are their slaves.
  7. They will expect to sit on our laps for cuddles and attention whenever they want, but if we want cuddles they will run and hide.
  8. They can be happy and affectionate one minute and completely feral the next without any warning or seeming cause.
  9. Their cute exterior hides their evil plan to take over the world (just mine?).
  10. They like to take over the dog’s bed. Sometimes the dog will be allowed to join them, but only if they don’t take up too much room.

Can you relate to these? Do you have any more to add?

  13. Haha, these are brilliant. You are right kids are like cats! Another one is how cats like to leave their “calling card” and sometimes you enter a room to find your toddler has done the same, in the middle of your new rug! Thanks for linking up with #FridayFrolics

    1. Oh no, thankfully I’ve escaped this one so far with the toddler but potty training hasn’t quite started yet so I may have this to look forward to 😩

  15. Love it, as a cat owner, and a child owner, I applaud your observational humour on this subject! I OFTEN refer to the phrase ‘herding cats’ when trying to get the kids out of the door 😉

  16. oh yes the climbing! He really is quite good at it. We’ve only had one big fall so far! I like how you can stroke them when they are asleep, just duck and roll when they flinch a little! Don’t wake them up! thanks for linking up to #familyfun

    1. Ha ha, the duck and roll, love it! My heart stops if they start to stir when I go in and check on them and you have to quickly work out how to get the hell out without them waking up fully x

  17. Mine is big on the scratching – especially when he gets tired or cranky. The cuddle thing too, since he figured out how to move. Too funny. #momsterslink

Posted on 17 September, 2016 at 2:35 am
    1. Thank you, I can’t wait for the scratching faze to be over. Lucky for me I’m not usually the target, unlucky for my son, he is. Aren’t little sisters great 😢

  30. Yes, I have often thought the same! They even have similar toys – both cats and babies get tunnels and balls with crinkly bits on!

    1. Never thought of the toys! My cats used to love chasing baby toys all over the floor, especially anything that jingled x

  31. Climbing and sleeping..yes! Mine are just S bit more noisey I think! Funny post, off to read the dog one #KCACOLS

    1. I think mine win in the noise stakes too, although the cats do have an impressive yowl when they want to be let in!

  32. Haha, you’re so right. “Feral” is actually a very fitting word for a toddler. The other day mine took off her shoe and started chewing it. I mean seriously?! I’m definitely not getting a pet until I am done with rearing toddlers 😉 #KCACOLS
