Monthly Bucket list - January 2017At the start of each month I like to set myself a list of goals for the coming weeks, a monthly bucket list if you will. I have found that it really helps to keep me on track and by publishing it on the blog there is an element of accountability that gives me the proverbial kick up the butt needed. I got the idea from the lovely Beth at twinderlemo.co.uk who hosts a linky for this purpose each month and I have found it invaluable. I like to keep a mix of blog/family/life/home goals to keep life balanced. Each month I will quickly recap how I got on with the previous months goals before listing the goals for the month ahead.

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you all had a great Christmas. I can’t believe it’s 2017 already!

I didn’t write a bucket list for December as I took the majority of the month off. I took the start of the month off to spend more time with the hubby before he returned to sea and then once my son broke up from school I took the rest of the month off too. It was hard doing Christmas without my husband around but I was determined to make the best of it for the kids and I think I succeeded.

Although I wasn’t blogging as such, I have been spending time thinking about where I want to take my blog and what I want to achieve over the coming year and I am super excited to get going again.

January Goals

Family

  • Make the most of the weekends now that the holidays are all but over.
  • Continue with the meal planning that we started last month. M is picking most of the meals (with a little guidance and a few suggestions) so when it comes to tea time there are no arguments about what is being served. It has made life so much simpler.

Home

  • Have yet another toy clear-out to make way for all the new toys the kids received at Christmas
  • Do some decluttering. I have signed up to The Organised Life Project being run by the lovely Naomi over at lifebynaomi.com with a different area of life being tackled each month. It looks like its going to be a great series if you want to go check it out.
  • Get quotes for a vestibule door and fan light.

Blog

  • I have set myself a new daily schedule so that the blog doesn’t completely take over other areas of my life. That means I am going to have to become much more productive with the time I set aside and very strict with myself.
  • Catch up on all the blog comments I received while I was taking a break.
  • Set up an email list. If anyone has any advice or suggestions they would be gladly recieved!
  • Create one free resource for subscribers. Again, any suggestions much appreciated.
  • Re-write my about page.
  • Organise my Pinterest boards.

Me

  • Read at least one book this month.
  • Crochet 6 squares a day (186 for the month). I’m in the process of making a stormtrooper pixel blanket but it requires 625 squares and I only have 100 or so done so far, so I need to make it a daily habit if I’m ever going to finish.
  • Exercise (as always).
  • Drink more water. I am terrible and can somehow get through a whole day before realising I haven’t had a drink since breakfast.

I think that’s more than enough to be getting on with for one month. How about you? How did you get on in December? Did you achieve all you set out to? What are your plans for January?

  4. I love the idea of a monthly bucket list! You have set some great positive goals here and I’m sure you’ll nail it in January and set your new year off with a bang. Drinking more water is one of mine too – and I really would love to make time to read a book more often. I’m lucky if I manage one a year now but I used to adore settling down with a good novel. Good luck and I’ll look forward to your Feb update! Happy New Year! Thanks for linking with #DreamTeam x

    1. Thank you. I never get time to read either but the last time I put it on my bucket list publicly I actually did it so I’m hoping it will work this month too, I miss curling up with a good book x

  5. Sounds like a good bucket list, drinking more water and spending more time with the family should be high up on any January list! #DreamTeam

  6. Yes, more reading! I want to read a book a month, but with blogging and crafting it kind of falls by the wayside. Must be more efficient in my tasks, which means more sleep, which means children need to sleep…. Hmmm, might not make it… Fab list and looking forward to seeing how you get on! 🙂 xx

    1. When I added that goal there was a kind of manic voice in my head laughing at me, like that was ever going to happen. Amazingly though I’m actually on target. I usually read the news while eating breakfast before the kids get up but have now switched to reading a book and I’m loving it. No idea what’s going on in the world but to be honest I’m probably better off!

  7. A monthly bucket list is a great idea. I think I might need to start with “Create a monthly bucket list” as my first month’s item and go from there. 🙂

  8. I agree with all of your Blog points, I just went self hosted and feel like my blog has become so overwhelming. i’ve put in plugins but not set them up properly ie subscriptions and really did it at the wrong time as little man was sick over the period I thought I’d beable to get it all sorted by!
looking forward to next months post to see how much you achieved this month! #familyfun

    1. Oh no, hope he’s better now. Things really can become overwhelming so quickly can’t they. All you can do is break it down and work through it one thing at a time, good luck x

  9. You have set some great goals. I need to do a bit of decluttering as well, so many new things in the house after Christmas. Good luck with the crocheting, the blanket sounds wonderful x

  10. If you have any luck with your subscribers list let me know!! I’ve had mine live for 3 months and have 17 people! I am offering free activity sheets for kids each month to my subscribers as exclusive content. Still only 17!! I don’t like pop up boxes and in your face adverts for it though. I’ve heard competitions are a good way to get them though. Hope that helps!? Thumbs up to everything else! Thanks for linking up to #familyfun

  11. I definitely need to drink more water I am awful at it and keep trying to – but it is slow progress. I have started to de-clutter we have rid the garage of the shocking amount of cardboard and wrapping paper it has been home to post Christmas – I must say I do like this part of the year, sorting chucking and starting again – ha. Good luck with your list. Thanks for joining us at #familyfun xx

  12. Water is high on my agenda. I’m sure that is why I am getting so many headaches. I need to redo some of my blog pages too as they’re in need of a refresh. I’m going to have a big toy clear out – but only when the kids are at school so they don’t get it all back out! xx

    1. Ha ha, that’s the problem I have with my toddler so have to make the most of nap times! My oldest is usually pretty good at sorting his own things, I let him sell any good stuff on the local sell and seek site which always adds an incentive!

  13. Great list! We really need a toy clear out & declutter too #monthlybucketlist
