Last week I published a post listing 12 Way Kids Are Like Dogs, while drafting it I was also struck by how much they share in common with cats. So here is another fun list for you:
- They like to climb; curtains, bookshelves, furniture, anything really! Unlike cats though, kids don’t always land on their feet.
- They have a tendency to scratch and bite and call it playing.
- Both have an air of superiority over us poor adults.
- They can sleep anywhere (unless you want them too).
- They sometimes display nocturnal tendencies and night time howling.
- They are under the impression that they rule the house and we are their slaves.
- They will expect to sit on our laps for cuddles and attention whenever they want, but if we want cuddles they will run and hide.
- They can be happy and affectionate one minute and completely feral the next without any warning or seeming cause.
- Their cute exterior hides their evil plan to take over the world (just mine?).
- They like to take over the dog’s bed. Sometimes the dog will be allowed to join them, but only if they don’t take up too much room.
Can you relate to these? Do you have any more to add?
This is really funny! I’m glad I’m not the only one who compares my kids to pets!
Thank you, now I know I’m not alone too x
As a mommy and a cat owner, I find this list very cute. #bestandworst
Thank you x
Haha the comparison is uncanny or uncatty lol. Thank you for stopping by. #Anythingoes
Thank you 😁
ha ha brilliant list, I cant believe how spot on number 8 in particular is….my youngest is this one all over:)

Ah, the joys of the nano-second mood switch! x
oh yes I can definitely relate to the climbing of furniture. #FamilyFun

So much fun aren’t they?! 😉
This is so true…especially the sleep thing!! My hubby always says our daughter is fickle like a cat! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x

Ha ha, fickle is definitely the word!
Haha! Love this list! Definitely agree! Oh, and cats are territorial like toddlers don’t you think?! 😉 #momsterslink
Thank you, I think you might be right x
This post cracked me up, Lola the bulldog rules this house and thinks #6 is true! #momsterslink
It’s true, we may as well give in to it x
That’s brilliant! I love it and it’s true. I have two cats and two boys and they are a lot alike. Popping over from #momsterlink
Glad I’m not the only one!
hahaha I had never thought of this before but I think they are all pretty much spot on. Mine definitely have the superiority complex down, and the climbing, always climbing! Thanks so much for linking at #familyfun, hope you can come back again next week xx
Thank you, I’ll definitely be back x
Haha this is amazing. It is all so true! Particularly number 6 – I honestly feel like a slave most of the time! #familyfun
Unfortunately I think it will a fair few years before we are ‘liberated’ x
Haha! I often compare my son to a cat. He is ALL OVER ME when he wants food, and not that interested at any other time… #thelist
Sounds about right! x
Haha, these are brilliant. You are right kids are like cats! Another one is how cats like to leave their “calling card” and sometimes you enter a room to find your toddler has done the same, in the middle of your new rug! Thanks for linking up with #FridayFrolics
Oh no, thankfully I’ve escaped this one so far with the toddler but potty training hasn’t quite started yet so I may have this to look forward to 😩
This is great especially 6 and 7. Number 6 applies to one of my son’s in particular who believes he deserves staff! Great post
Ha ha, I fear it will only get worse as they get older!
Love it, as a cat owner, and a child owner, I applaud your observational humour on this subject! I OFTEN refer to the phrase ‘herding cats’ when trying to get the kids out of the door 😉
Thanks so much for joining us at #coolmumclub!
Thank you, I forgot about trying to round them up, definitely another thing they have in common x
oh yes the climbing! He really is quite good at it. We’ve only had one big fall so far! I like how you can stroke them when they are asleep, just duck and roll when they flinch a little! Don’t wake them up! thanks for linking up to #familyfun
Karen : TwoTinyHands recently posted…Happy Days #28 – Missed a Week!
Ha ha, the duck and roll, love it! My heart stops if they start to stir when I go in and check on them and you have to quickly work out how to get the hell out without them waking up fully x
Mine is big on the scratching – especially when he gets tired or cranky. The cuddle thing too, since he figured out how to move. Too funny. #momsterslink
Thank you, I can’t wait for the scratching faze to be over. Lucky for me I’m not usually the target, unlucky for my son, he is. Aren’t little sisters great 😢
Agree with these. Especially the cuddles and taking over the world! Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics
Thank you, they’re like mini dictators aren’t they x
Haha! So very true! Great post.
Thank you
Haha agree with all especially taking over the world 🌍 😂 X #bestandworst
Glad my kids aren’t the only ones! x
I’d say that was spot on! Thanks for adding a bit of humour to my day 🙂

Thanks you. It’s amazing how fast they can move when they don’t want one isn’t it?
Brilliant list, and so true! I look after my neighbours cats and they can be really affectionate, then suddenly I have a claw down my arm!

Thank you, they can definitely flip in a nanosecond!
Too true! Thoughmid add, taking all day to decide if they want to be in or out, or wanting to go back as soon as they’ve left….
Ha ha, definitely should have added this one!
I have had two children. I now have two cats, and yes they are exactly the same. I would also add they demand food then turn their nose up once you guve it to them. #coolmumsclub

Yes, so true, all with a slight look of disdain! x
Love this follow-up! I’m totally with you on number 6, and it’s definitely not just yours on number 9 – I often wonder whether I’m raising a mini dictator! #KCACOLS
Thank you, so glad I’m not alone! x
OMG You are sooooo right!! No wonder I get confused between whether it’s my daughter or fluffy!! Made me chuckle!

I have never thought about this before but yes, children are exactly like cats! Perhaps thats why mine is always running towards them when she see’s them, its a kindred spirit. #kcacols
Kat recently posted…Domestic Abuse Survivor – Four Years On
Ha ha, maybe, partners in crime no doubt if they’re anything like mine x
Yes, I have often thought the same! They even have similar toys – both cats and babies get tunnels and balls with crinkly bits on!
Sorry for my lateness – having technological issues this week! Thanks so much for joining us on #FridayFrolics
Never thought of the toys! My cats used to love chasing baby toys all over the floor, especially anything that jingled x
Climbing and sleeping..yes! Mine are just S bit more noisey I think! Funny post, off to read the dog one #KCACOLS
I think mine win in the noise stakes too, although the cats do have an impressive yowl when they want to be let in!
Haha, you’re so right. “Feral” is actually a very fitting word for a toddler. The other day mine took off her shoe and started chewing it. I mean seriously?! I’m definitely not getting a pet until I am done with rearing toddlers 😉 #KCACOLS

That made me chuckle, my little girl used to do that but I’d completely forgotten about it. She had some beautiful white (white! What was I thinking!) fabric shoes that must have tasted like chocolate as they would be in her mouth within seconds of putting them on.
Oh my goodness this is so funny and true. When you write it out like this it is scary how much they are alike! #momsterslink

They don’t flush their poop lol. I don’t know what it is with kids and not wanting to flush their poop. And cats will shit on the floor in front of the litter box if their litter box is too full. Love this list. Thanks so much for linking with #momsterslink and hope to see you again today!
