Kids driving you up the wall? Need a light-hearted book to escape into? One that can offer real actionable advice in the form of a wine recommendation for your very situation? Read on to find out what I thought of W(h)ine – 50 Perfect Wines to Pair with Your Child’s Behavior by Jennifer Todryk.

Kids driving you up the wall? Need a light-hearted book to escape into? One that can offer a wine recommendation for your very situation? Read on ...

Description (From Netgalley)

This isn’t your ordinary wine pairing book–this is wine pairing for the weary parent!

Did your daughter just get out of bed for the twelfth time to ask for a glass of water? We’ve got the perfect rosé for your sanity. Did your son just have a  meltdown in the middle of the grocery store? We’ve got a Pinot for your pain. Has your child’s math homework left you in a state of total depression? Try a Syrah to get you out of that funk.

Whine includes fifty perfect pairings to match your child’s perfectly rotten behavior! You’ll also discover the best ways to open a wine bottle without a corkscrew (hint: use a shoe). As a bonus, each wine featured in the book comes with a sticker, so every time you sample a wine to match a rotten behavior, go ahead and add it to the Periodic Table of W(h)ine that folds out of the book. The sticker groupings will help you determine if your child has behavior problems, attitude problems, or just plain bad DNA!

So whether you like your “juice” from the glass, the bottle, or the box, this is the perfect book to wine your way through the joys of day-to-day parenting.

My Thoughts

A really fun little book, this one is perfect for any wine loving parent.

I love my kids more than life itself but there are times (several a day) when their behaviour is somewhat less than perfect (god awful) and I find myself really looking forward to a glass of wine. If you’re a mother (or father for that matter) and you like wine then this book is for you. Forget matching your wine to your food (because lets face it, when your in need of a glass of wine, food rarely comes into it), this book will carefully select the perfect wine to match your little darlings’ behaviour.

Written in a very funny, tongue in cheek and relatable manner this book would make an excellent gift for any mum friends you have.

I’d give W(h)ine 4 stars.

Although this is my first book review on this site, I did used to write quite a lot of reviews (back when I had more time to actually read) and developed a rating system that not only helped me decide how to rate a book but also explain to readers how I reached that rating. I find all too often that people give our 4 and 5 star reviews at the drop of a hat and it doesn’t really mean a great deal. I wanted to be a little clearer.
My Rating System:
1 star: I will never post a 1 star review because this means it was so bad I couldn’t finish it, and I don’t won’t publicly rate a book I haven’t read all the way through.
2 stars: I may have liked the story but it was badly written or it may have been a boring story well written. Something about it kept me reading but I didn’t particularly enjoy it.
3 stars: A good, enjoyable read. If the description appeals to you I’d recommend reading it.
4 stars: A really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed and may even read again and/or gift to others. I will want to read other books by the same author. Highly recommend.
5 stars: Reserved for books that blew me away and whose characters I can’t get out of my head. These are books that I will definitely read again, possibly several times. If I read an e-book version I may even have to go buy a hard copy for my shelves. Why are you still here? Go read this book right now.
