Despite being around for years, fidget spinners seem to have taken over the world this year and there have been a number of other products, such as fidget cubes getting in on the action. The latest such toy is Mokuru.

Along with almost every other kid on the planet, my 8yr old son loves fidget spinners and has a couple of different ones. When I mentioned we had been offered a new fidget toy to review he was over the moon. He’d been quite late to the party on the fidget spinner front, being one of the last in school to get one, this time he would be the first.

Made from smooth beech wood and coming in a range of 7 bright colours, Mokuru is designed as a desk top toy to test a player’s focus and balance. It’s certainly tactile and visually appealing but I have to admit that when we first opened it up we didn’t have a clue what to do with it. My son and I puzzled it out for a little while then headed to youtube for some advice.

Thankfully there are A LOT of videos showing you the different tricks you can perform by flipping and rolling the Mokuru. Having watched a few videos and thinking it looked pretty easy we headed back to the table to give it another go. And quickly learnt that appearances can be deceptive.

It may look easy when you see other people doing it but it’s actually really tricky, and also quite addictive as you just can’t stop till you manage at least one move successfully. It will definitely help with hand eye coordination, something I’ve now discovered I need some help with!

We did manage to master a couple of moves eventually but we have a long way to go. There are people on YouTube flipping 5 Mokuru at once with one hand!

I’m not sure it is going to take the fidget spinner’s crown but it is defiantly a great addition to any kids fidget toy collection, and one that actually requires them to master a skill and be a little creative. My husband even took one to Sea with him and sent me a video earlier of him having mastered ‘the square’.

If you’re intrigued and fancy getting your hands one and trying it out for yourself I have two to give away below.
