At the start of each month I like to set myself a list of goals for the coming weeks, a monthly bucket list if you will. I have found that it really helps to keep me on track and by publishing it on the blog there is an element of accountability that gives me the proverbial kick up the butt needed. I got the idea from the lovely Beth at who hosts a linky for this purpose each month and I have found it invaluable. I like to keep a mix of blog/family/life/home goals to keep life balanced. Each month I will quickly recap how I got on with the previous months goals before listing the goals for the month ahead.

This month has been a hard one with getting back into the school routine and having at least one sick child each week, as well as a couple of migraines myself. There have been plenty of good moments though and I don’t think I got on too badly with my goals, all things considered. Onwards and upwards for October though!

Do you set yourself goals for the month ahead? It really helps keep me on track, check out how I got on during September and my goals for October ...

September Round-Up

  • Get back into our usual routine now the holidays are at an end. Done.
  • Get L settled in to pre-school for 2.5 days a week. She loved it the first week but the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of screaming and crying. I’m hoping she settles soon.
  • Start meal planning again. Fail.

  • Overhaul my desk as it has become a bit of a dumping ground. Done. It is now thoroughly tidies and much easier to work from but I’d still like to pretty it up a little.
  • Have a clear-out in M’s bedroom. Done and amazingly he agreed to give loads to charity and has kept it really clean and tidy all month!
  • No other big goals, just try and keep on top of things so that I can spend the days L is in pre-school working instead of trying to catch up on housework. Done. I’m focusing on decluttering a different area of the house each week and the areas I’ve done already are now really easy to keep on top of.

  • Keep on top of comments. Failed again! I really need to get into more a of a habit of doing this daily otherwise they build up and I just don’t know where to start.
  • Catch up on all the outstanding reviews I have to do. I have one I didn’t get to but only because I am waiting for a response back from the company with regards a competition.
  • I have a new collaboration coming up that I’m really excited about but you’ll have to wait till next week to find out what. Yay! Incase you didn’t find out I am now the new co-host for the #FamilyFunLinky which has now moved to Monday’s. I am absolutely loving it and would love you all to come join in if you haven’t already x
  • Sort out a work schedule so that I don’t waste the days when L is in pre-school. Fail
  • Attend BlogOnXMAS!!!!! YES! It was amazing and I really should get around to writing up a post about it.

  • Get back to my daily meditations. For the first half of the month I didn’t miss a single day, and then it all fell apart. I felt so much better that first half of the month though so I need to get going again.
  • Crochet 90 squares. Epic fail. I think I managed about 20!
  • Complete module one of NCC Home Learning’s Life Coaching CourseAlmost. I have one last exercise to complete but I have really enjoyed these exercises and I’m learning more about me and what’s really important to me.

October Goals

  • Get the kids involved and start meal planning again.
  • Do some baking with L.

  • Have a wardrobe clear-out and general bedroom tidy-up.
  • Sort out the drawers in our sideboard as they are complete mess and you can never find what you’re looking for.

  • Get on top of comments once and for all.
  • Create a schedule.
  • Send out a few brand pitches.

  • Daily meditations.
  • Crochet 120 squares. I know that may be a bit of stretch considering I haven’t hit my goal of 90 the last few months, but I only have 120 left and then I can start weaving in the ends, blocking them and stitching it all together. I really want to have this blanket finished by Christmas but it’s going to be a real stretch so I’m pushing myself this month.
  • Complete module two of NCC Home Learning’s Life Coaching Course.

How about you? How did you get on in September? Did you achieve all you set out to? What are your plans for October?

    1. Thank you. With my baking skills it will probably just be crispy cakes 😉

  2. Great bucket list. If it helps with organisation, I have started putting EVERYTHING into my calendar, even commenting – on a reoccurring entry. I love editing the days appointment to read DONE, it’s a great feeling! I even put in a TV prog I want to watch, I have been so much more productive since doing this! Sounds OTT but it really works for me! #FamilyFun

    1. I definitely need to start doing something like this, I work better with set times to do things otherwise other ‘stuff’ always gets in the way x

  3. I’ve started publishing (well i haven’t actually yet, but there’s one in the schedule!) my meal plans to force myself to do them. It’s saving me a fortune! #familyfunlinky

    1. Great idea, nothing like a bit of public accountability to keep you on track, that’s the whole idea behind this list. I’ll have to stop by for some inspiration x

  4. I love these goals – they all sound do-able. (For someone else, I’m awful with goals and plans!) You may have inspired me to actually write down a few things I need to do so I can physically check them off when they’re done.
Good luck with your goals this month!
PS – I am also awful at staying on top of replying to blog comments. They will pile up for 3 weeks (at least) before I sit down and devote an afternoon to it!

    1. Writing them down publicly is great for motivating you to actually do them. Glad I’m not the only one who gets so far behind. I’ve managed to reply to this one though x

  5. I have all my blogging goals for the month sorted (post going up later in the week), But I think I need to set some non blogging goals for myself too. I was really into knitting and reading each month about you crocheting makes me think I should get back into it. Do something for me a little bit.

    1. Definitely, it’s so easy to make plans for everything else and then completely overlook yourself. After not doing a great deal on my crochet goals the last couple of months I’ve kicked this month off to a great start and I’m really really enjoying it again. It also serves two purposes. My usual habit when I sit down after the kids go to bed is either blogging or watching tv, both of them whilst snacking on lots on unhealthy stuff. Crocheting while watching tv or reading blog posts keeps my hands too occupied for snacks!

  7. Well done on achieveing so much! I like this idea of a monthly bucket list. I really need to start planning properly rather than start one thing and never finishing it…

    1. Having to tell everyone what I did or didn’t do at the end of every month helps me tick off more than I normally would x

  8. I intend to do meal planning and it always goes by the wayside too. My main goal for this month is to get a chore schedule set up for the kids. Good luck with the brand pitches. #familyfun

    1. Having them publicly displayed is the only thing that holds me accountable enough to actually achieve most of it!

Posted on 3 October, 2017 at 12:37 pm
  10. I should probably do something like this: plan a monthly schedule. The problem with the monthly timeline for me though is that I’m a spur of the moment kind of person and not that disciplined or organized to plan for an entire month. It’s something to try though:) Thanks so much for hosting #FamilyFunLinky

  11. Oh you are really the guru of productivity and lists! I feel all inspired and love the way you write your goals and look at how you’ve achieved them. Am on a mission today to start following suit! Hope October is just as productive! #FamilyFun

  12. I miss writing a bucket list but hey maybe next year… getting a schedule in place will definitely help but it’s always easy to get sidetracked. May be good to cut back on linkies to get your comments under control!! Although I know how much you love them!!

  17. what a great idea to keep a monthly bucket list for the family and great to see if you’ve managed to achieve them or not. this will be a lovely way to keep a record of what you have all done together and will be able to show the children looking back when they are older of things you did as a family #thelistlinky

It’s so hard when they aren’t happy settling at nursery isn’t it? I hope it all settles ASAP for you
I had a mini clear out of the girls room. It’s such a nice feeling to have some space cleared
