Who doesn’t love a soak in the bath? In my pre-child days I could happily take a bath whenever I wanted, it was as simple as popping in the plug and turning the tap, maybe adding a bit of bubble bath and then relaxing with a good book. These days you have to clear the bath of a million plastic toys, make sure everyone has been to the toilet, get in, have a quick five minute soak while waiting for someone to shout ‘muuummmmmyyyyy’ and then get back out before you tempt fate and one of them comes in needing a poo.

As you can guess, my soaking in the bath days are very few and far between now and generally more trouble than they’re worth. But every now and then, when Keith is at home, he’ll see that I’m in need of a bit of a time out and he’ll send me for a bath, keeping the kids entertained and out of the bathroom for a good hour. The fact it happens so rarely, I really appreciate that time. Don’t get me wrong, chances are someone will still need the toilet at some point, but at least I know I don’t have to get out the bath to deal with it.

Now normally I’m a bubble bath kind of girl, the more bubbles the better. But I was recently offered a bottle of Olverum Bath Oil to try out. After reading up on their website about the history of this amazing oil and how the secret blend of essential oils has been kept secret within the family for over 80 years I was intrigued to give it a go.

What's your favourite bath product? I used to be all about the bubble bath, but Olverum bath oil has converted me, find out why ...

So, one day during the holidays when we didn’t have a great deal on, Keith took charge of the kids and I shut myself away in the bathroom. Immediately upon opening the packaging you feel like this is a luxury product, there’s just something about the feel of the glass bottle. And then you remove the lid and the smell is like being transported to a spa.

I did wonder if it would feel a little strange sitting in a bath with oil in, but because you only need the smallest amount (5ml) there is no greasiness at all. And unlike bubble bath, the smell doesn’t fade. I lay in that bath for almost an hour and have honestly never felt so relaxed.

On getting out there was still no greasiness, my skin just felt soft. I even washed my hair while I was in here and that didn’t get greasy either. For the next few hours I could still smell the oil on my skin and despite the children turning wild, a quick smell of my arm and I was calm (pretty much a miracle for me!).

Olverum Bath Oil

Olverum Bath Oil retails at £29 for a 125ml bottle. At first I thought this sounded a little expensive but as you only need the smallest amount you can actually get 25 baths from one bottle. I’m lucky if I get a long soak in the bath once a month (just to clarify, I do shower every day), so thats a two year supply for me. Even if you’re lucky enough to get a weekly soak that’s still a 6 month supply. I’m definitely converted.

How about you? What’s your go to bath product? Have you ever tried an oil?
