Christmas is fast approaching and just in case you’re in need of a little inspiration I’m putting together a number of gift guides over the coming weeks. This first one is for any 3-5yr old girls in your life, whether it’s your daughter, a niece, a granddaughter or a friend’s child. I’ve included items in a wide range of price brackets so that you should be able to find something here no matter what you’re budget.
£10 and under
These little kits make great stocking fillers. They come with three colours, a brush and a sponge and an easy to follow guide to recreate the look on the front. There are so many different kits, you’re sure to find something for everyone but I think the Snow Fairy and Snowman ones would be perfect for Christmas. At £2.99 direct from Snazaroo they certainly won’t break the bank either.
Slime seems to be all the rage at the minute but a lot of it tends to be aimed more towards boys. These Goobands have a more universal feel to them. You get a small plastic tub with brightly coloured slime inside and a silicone wristband in a matching colour. At £3.99 they make a great little stocking filler and there are loads of different ranges and colours to chose from, including rainbow and glittery slime. They can be purchased in store at Smyths Toys.
I love these little teddies from Hallmark and mentioned their super hero girls range in a previous gift guide for 3yr olds. Just in time for Christmas they are introducing a new Christmas range with Disney and Star Wars characters. They’re currently £6 each on Amazon. We have the Minnie and Mickey Mouse ones but the Chewbacca and Yoda ones are equally cute.
Slyvanian Families are iconic, and for good reason. In this cute carry case series you get one baby animal and an accessory inside their own little case with a carry handle. I love this baby bear on a rocking horse but you can get loads of different ones, including a puppy and a slide, a kitten in a cradle and a baby squirrel in a car. At £6.99 each on Amazon they’re a great way to start off a collection or add to an existing one.
Can anyone else remember these from their childhood? Just in case you can’t, let me fill you in. They start off as sheets of pictures for your child to colour in, then you cut them out and place them in the oven and watch as they magically shrink and thicken. When they come out of the oven they are like hard pieces of plastic which you can then turn into badges, keyrings, jewellery etc. There are so many different designs you can get on Amazon, all priced at £10 or less. I particularly love the unicorn set and the wiggly eyed bugs set.
My daughter loves shopkins and as long as you’re not bothered about having the absolutely latest set you can usually pick up a pack of 12 for under £10. This World Vacation set is great value at £9.99 with 12 shopkins and a balcony room for storage.
I think every home has to have one of these sets in at some point. Whenever any of us are poorly or hurt L has taken to calling herself the Doctor and making us better so I think this is the perfect little role playing set and it all comes inside it’s own case for easy storage. At £9.95 this Medical Carrycase ticks all the right boxes.
These beautiful kits have really taken off in the past year and it’s not hard to see why. Not only does it get children involved in growing their own garden it comes with some super cute accessories and looks totally adorable. This particular kit comes with a fairy house, a toadstool and mouse, some colourful gravel for the garden path, a shell for a water feature, a fairy, a washing line and even some tiny flowers. Not only is is beautiful but I think it’s pretty reasonably priced too. At the time of writing you can purchase this one from findmeagift.co.uk for £12.99 (usually £14.99).
I only recently discovered Tedrooms on Instagram and now I’m a big fan. It’s a cute little case with a metal handle and clasp and when you open it up it becomes a bedroom for a teddy. Inside each case you get a teddy (they do bunnies, unicorns, bears and more) lying on a handmade mattress with matching pillow, sheet and quilt and a little window scene with matching curtains. You can get them in different sizes with different patterned cases and prices range from around £12-20 plus postage. These are only available through the Tedrooms Instagram page where you can contact Linda (the creator) directly.
I love this stuff. My son had a similar style of product when he was younger but the tray was really shallow and it used to go everywhere so I’ve been reluctant to buy any more. I recently got to try out this stuff though and its amazing. It’s super soft and the tray is nice and deep to keep everything contained. The moulds work really well and I was impressed with the detail you can get on the animals. It’s also completely natural and doesn’t leave your hands with that awful plasticine smell. There are loads of different sets you can get ranging from £7-25. This particular animal set usually retails at £22.99 but at the time of writing it was on sale on Amazon for £14.98.
I was lucky enough to win one of these at BlogOn back in September and my 3yr old absolutely loves it. It hops along, twitches its nose, raises its ears and makes a really cute little squeak. It’s totally adorable and sure to be a hit. This one usually retails at £20 but at the time of writing is on offer for £12 from The Entertainer.
All kids love playing shop and this great till comes with a scanner, chip and pin machine, play food and play money. It retails at £25 but at the time of writing it’s on offer on Amazon for £18.17.
I love gifts that can be personalised in some way and this beautiful unicorn mug can be personalised with your child’s name and also comes with a soft unicorn plush. What’s not to love? You can pick this one up from giftpup.com for £16.99.
If you’re wanting to add to an existing Sylvanian collection this sky ride set is gorgeous. It’s so different to a lot of kids toys out there and will really capture the imagination. Although it doesn’t come with any figures (they have to be purchased separately), you do get a lovely little picnic set that fits into the back. The Skyride can fit two adult figures and one baby and is compatible with the Starry Point Lighthouse Set. The Sky Ride retails at £22.99 but at the time of writing is on offer on Amazon for £18.39.
This little set is great for two reasons. One, you get three cute battery operated rabbits, all with their own beds and carrots. Two, the box it comes in opens out into a playset for the rabbits to run around, including a tunnel for them to zoom through between to the two sides. Then, at the end of the day, it all folds back together into a box for it to be stored away neatly. This is a winning formula for me, the amount of cardboard we try to squeeze into our recycling bin at Christmas is ridiculous, and then trying to find a place to store all the bits that come with each set without parts being lost can be a nightmare. This set usually retails at £25 but at the time of writing you can get it for half price from The Entertainer. £12.50 is a complete bargain!
The love of all things unicorn is still going strong and the trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. I absolutely love this Unicorn Light. It gives off a soft glow that makes it perfect for a nightlight, or just to enjoy, and it phases through a series of 7 different colours. What little girl wouldn’t love one of these lighting up their room? At the time of posting this light was on findmeagift.co.uk for £24.99.
Leapfrog always create amazing toys and I’ve never been disappointed with one yet. My daughter was bought a My Pal Violet her first Christmas and she still plays with it now. She is growing out of it a bit though and the Read With Me Violet is the perfect follow-on. This great toy can actually read to your child from the five books provided and will ask them questions as they go to help them learn what they are reading. You can pat the dog’s head to answer questions or kiss the cheeks and press the paws for songs and other interactions. Available as either Violet or Scout this is another gift that is sure to be a winner. Read With Me Violet retails for around £29.99 but at the time of writing can be purchased from Amazon for £22.48.
Yes, I know, another unicorn. What can I say, I’m obsessed. Last year the Christmas presents that got the most playtime were a Darth Vader and BB8 RC Inflatable. They were bought for my son but my daughter thought they were hilarious and played with them just as much. This year they’ve brought out another one, and who can resist Fluffy from Despicable Me 3? I know L is going to have great fun racing this round the living room on Christmas morning. Fluffy retails at £29.99 but is currently on offer at The Entertainer for £14.99!
The Juniors range of LEGO is fantastic. Before it was always a big jump up from Duplo to regular Lego but this range helps make that transition. The pieces are all compatible with regular LEGO but the sets are a little easier to put together. L got a couple of sets for her birthday and loves them so I think we’ll be expanding her collection this Christmas. This Vet Clinic with the little animal ambulance and grooming station is really cute and currently selling for £32.50.
I think everyone has heard of Lottie dolls by now, but if not let me fill you in. They are an award winning collection of dolls designed to encourage children to be themselves and to be imaginative and creative. We already have the Muddy Puddles and Rockabilly dolls and my daughter loves them. The standard dolls are around £18.99 but they’ve now started adding some playsets to the range. I love this one with the pony included which is currently on Amazon for £32.99.
We have a number of Playmobil sets in our house and they have more than stood the test of time and been put through their paces. L received the Take Along Dolls House last Christmas and it’s amazing, she plays with it all the time. I’ve been looking at sets to expand her collection and this Zoo one is perfect. There are so many amazing little elements to this set (aside from the 15 animals), such as a baby in a pram and a gift shop selling balloons and stuffed animals. It retails at £49.99 but Amazon have it on offer for £41.99.
Snuggle Sacs are great for so many occasions, whether cuddled up on the couch watching a film on a lazy Sunday, having a sleepover, resting downstairs when poorly, or just making bedtime more fun. With super soft fleece on the outside and 100% cotton on the inside, these things are super cozy and comfortable. You can even slide a pillow into the top bit for added comfort. And to top it all off, not only does it look great (you can get a range of different designs) but it can be machine washed and tumble-dried. These are available from Room To Grow for £50.
My son had the original version of this when he was younger and loved it. L has just reached that age now where she is fascinated by taking pictures and always wants to use my phone. One of these would be perfect for her (and I won’t need to worry about my phone!). Not only does it have a front and back camera, it also has a few games and a photo editor too. It usually retails at £52.99 but at the time of writing was on offer on Amazon for £48.99. If you’re happy with a blue version though, that one’s on offer for £29.06!
Hatchimals were a big hit last Christmas and the surprise eggs are set to be another hit this year. With these ones you get twins but you won’t know which ones until the egg hatches. You ‘raise’ the twins and they grow up as you interact with them, they also interact with each other and play games and dance. They retail at £74.99 but at the time of writing were on Amazon for £54.49. This is one to order quickly before they sell out like last year.
All kids love playing with kitchen sets and I know L would love a play kitchen. We’ve never bought one in the past purely because we just don’t have the room for one. But, I’ve just discovered this one from Little Tikes that actually folds up when not in use and I love it. What a great idea. This one retails at £59.99 but is currently on Amazon for £54.99.
This dollhouse is absolutely beautiful. Unlike some other models it comes fully furnished with 30 pieces of furniture and a family of four. One of my favourite features is the addition of a garden when it’s all opened out. I’m sure any little girl would be happy with this. At the time of writing this Dollhouse was £79.99.
