All parents have these moments. You’ll be looking for something in a cupboard or putting something away in the attic, only to realise just how much stuff you have that your kids have outgrown. Either your garage is full to brim with baby equipment you no longer need, or your garden shed full of kids sports equipment and outdoor games that haven’t been used for years.
Don’t panic! There are lots of things you can do with this ‘stuff’. You could try giving it away to new parents as baby shower gifts, arranging swaps with other families, donating to your local charity shop OR you could make some cash by selling secondhand on eBay. Here are some tips to make the most of it:
- Items don’t need to be in perfect condition – just give them a clean and be honest about any scrapes or blemishes. Check similar listings to see appropriate pricing and how yours compares.
- If you’ve got a lot of smaller, low value items – try offering them as a package rather than individually, which is an easy way to shift larger numbers. This works particularly well with toy collections, or lots of items that work well together, like bath toys or bedroom decorations.
- Don’t be scared to put the bigger items on there too, like trampolines, changing tables or pushchairs. Nowadays, there are lots of companies like Shiply that offer good value eBay courier services by using delivery drivers already on the road. Just copy the product link into the website and it’ll automatically fill in most of the details for you.
- Don’t forget the fees – eBay will charge a small amount for you to list the item, and also a fee for selling the item, which will be a percentage of the final sale amount. Make sure you factor in these costs to your ‘profits’ so you know exactly what you need to charge.
I’ll leave you now to think about what you could do with that extra cash – whether it’s a little extra towards a holiday, a family treat, or just more age-appropriate toys for the kids!
Great points. These are some great tips for those who are new on the eBay platform. It is a big place and a good approach can bring a huge success.

Thanks for the 411!!! I love eBay but sometimes I get intimidated about selling!

I’ve sold a few bits on there now and it’s actually a lot easier than you think x
